Looking Forward to ....ummm..today - 5/19/2010

Sorry about the lateness of this post but here we go.  Pretty light week so I may end up picking up a trade, if I do it will probably be Ex Machina since I'm trying to catch up on the whole story and I'm only up to volume 4 at this point :-)

Click below for the books that I plan on reading this week :

Marvel Comics

Invincible Iron Man #26 : I spent a good bit of time catching up on this in the past month so I’ll be trying this as a regular read for a little while. That’s 2 regular Marvel books for me now. Weird.

DC Comics

Batman : Streets of Gotham #12 : This has been a great read and the team of Dustin Nguyen and Paul Dini is perfect for this title. This issue seems to kick off a new story arc and one of these days I will actually read the Manhunter back-ups.

Brightest Day #2 : First issue was impressive, especially the last page where a certain aquatic villain shows back up after a brutal re-introduction.

DC Universe Legacies #1 : Do I really want to get into another year-long (almost anyway) DC mini-series? Hmmmmm…Len Wein…the Kuberts…and JG Jones?! OK, three issue rule is in effect.

Justice League of America #45 : Still kind of reading this to keep up with the story but I’ve been disappointed by the overall lameness of the book. I was excited to see Mark Bagley on this title at first but I’ve found that his art style does not fit with the Justice League. Loved him on Ultimate Spider-Man though.

Legion of Superheroes #1 : I’ll check out at least the first issue here. The solicit claims tie-ins to Green Lantern Corps and Johns’ Superman run, I’ll also check out the Jim Lee variant cover. Might pick it up if it’s not too pricey.

Superman : War of the Supermen #3 : Fun story so far. I’m really enjoying the pacing and the fact that it’s coming out weekly is a big help.

Zatanna #1 : Dini on Zatanna? Finally? I’ll be checking out this new series as well.

IDW Publishing

GI Joe #18 : Consistently one of the best titles from a non-DC or Marvel publisher. I love the slow build and the reinvention of many of the characters. Well done while still respecting the history.

Look for First Impressions by tomorrow and reviews will be up over the weekend!

Invincible Iron Man #25 was a good jumping on point, so it's . I'll maintain that Fraction is overrated (note, as the sage Wolterstorff once said, "overrated" is not the same as "not good"), but his best Marvel stuff is definitely Iron Man--particularly as he continues to slowly tone down his obvious Warren Ellis influence. You might like Fraction's Five Fists of Science, actually.

Not to kill your readers' suspense, but Jason did indeed buy Ex Machina Vol. 4. Spoiler alert! (Related: Slutty Manga Wonder Woman figurine also sold today, as predicted).

Trust me, if the baby was not on the way then Slutty Manga Wonder Woman (great description by the way) would be on the shelf in between Adam Hughes Wonder Woman and Adam Hughes Power Girl.
